Cooking up the next big thing.

Did you know that Michigan has 14,600 acres of grape vines of which 2,000 acres are devoted to wine grapes? Or that Michigan is a top 10 state for wine production as more than 130 wineries produce over 1 million gallons of wine annually? With a passion for travel, Cathy Knapp has toured many of Michigan’s wineries, gaining extensive knowledge of one of the state’s top crops as well as other top attractors for businesses and people alike.

A Certified Economic Developer, Cathy serves as director of Southwest Michigan First’s office based in Sturgis. She holds responsibility for delivering business consulting services to St. Joseph County’s existing companies and managing the project pipeline associated with those businesses.

A graduate of Ferris State University, she is a member of the Kalamazoo | St. Joseph County Workforce Development Board, Michigan Economic Development Advisory Council Board and Michigan Economic Developers Association. She has also been active with Sturgis Public Schools Business Partnership program.

While traveling is Cathy’s special pastime, she spends most evenings and weekends with her husband and three children and, depending on the time of year, enjoying a sunset while boating on one of St. Joseph County’s many scenic lakes and rivers.
